Once upon a time there was a girl who stumbled into the world of digital art with only a mouse and a crappy Photo program and a lot a of enthusiasm in hand. She worked hard to teach herself the ropes, and was proud of her first pieces. Three years later, she looked back and went "Holy crap, that sucks!" Now mind, I did only have a mouse and Photoshop Elements at the time, but even so... Well, now I have Photoshop CS, a tablet, a hell of a lot more knowledge of anatomy, and a lot of practice and experience. So I looked back at those horrendous pieces and said, "Let's go about fixing this up."
This piece is a remake of my very first digital piece--currently my most viewed piece, which is regrettable in my opinion--fanart for a fanfic by Indygodusk. I changed the angle, washed the piece into blues and blacks, kept the background as the focus but changed the detail level, took Kaoru's braid out, and took out the fence. I also wanted to give the viewer more of a sense of being behind Kaoru rather than getting a side view. Like the trees and bushes a lot. I think they're my favorite part. There's a voice in my mind saying I should add more detail to Kaoru, but I think in this case simplicity might be the better policy.
Oh how lovely! I really like the way the misty sky looks, but even more I love the emotions this picture evokes. I feel like we are peeking in on a private moment, with Kaoru as a deeply introspective and dimly-lit figure. I totally feel the sense that I have come upon her from behind and that, surprised and intrigued, I nevertheless must slink away silently because I am unwilling to disturb her contemplation. Well done!
I'm sorry it took me so long to discover this. You are wonderful for revisiting this moment and your talent has truly improved. Thank you again for the homage!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
