Shattered Soul

I just love it when deviant doesn't work the first time...really. Anyway, I said I'd submit some work and here I am, actually following through. This is actually a photo I took for use as a reference for charcoal, but I love the photo itself. I've had a concept for a while of a portrait of a person in a shattered mirror. Since I couldn't find anything on the web to suit my needs, I took matters into my own hands.

I went out and bought a mirror, shattered it, and with the help of my mother, took my portrait in the mirror. Turned it black and white in photoshop and left it purposefully grainy to make the picture look aged. When I finished, I realized the photo looked like something out of the Holocaust, which was not exactly what I was going for, but am still quite pleased with the results. I was going more for profound thoughts on the ability of the soul to shatter, but human life continues on anyway. I'll post the charcoal of the concept later...maybe.
